Laura Hope-Gill (pictured above feeding a sheep in a Fairy Fort on Dingle Peninsula) is an Irish-Canadian poet and storyteller. An associate professor of Creative Writing at Lenoir-Rhyne University, she runs the Narrative Healthcare Certificate Program from within the MFA in Creative Writing Program. She founded Story Shepherds in 2023 after befriending the group of Northern Irish Peace Builders and witnessed how Northern Ireland adopts Storytelling practices applied in South Africa and Rwanda to sustain peace and heal PTSD in individuals and communities. After ten years of research in Narrative Medicine, she had found undeniable living evidence of storytelling’s healing properties.

Her writings on the mythopoetic practice of Bardic Medicine (what we are still calling Narrative Medicine but getting closer to this ancestral practice) are collected at THE STORY SHEPHERDS at Substack.

Her paintings from her own healing story which included a nine-month bout of darkness due to a brain injury are on her website, along with other creations.

She is available for conferences and zooms as well as conversations about stone circles, storytelling, healing, community, and dogs.

Her email is Laura.HopeGill@LR.Edu.
